As you may know, i recently celebrated my first anniversary of joining the diabetes club. with my rookie year in the books, it seemed like a good time to reward myself and get a very cool new diabetes technology gadget! i am now a proud insulin pumper. That means that instead of giving 4 shots of insulin a day, the pump will constantly pump small amounts throughout the day and allow me to increase the rate whenever i eat some carbs. Annie helped me get it set up a couple of days ago (my md was too busy, so i went straight to the real expert) and today i started using it exclusively.
In addition to constantly injecting insulin into my body, it also has another awesome feature: Real Time glucose readings. The glucose readings work by inserting a small tube just under the skin which measures glucose every 5 minutes. Considering i usually only get 5-6 glucose readings per day with traditional finger sticks (which are still required to calibrate the continuous sensor), this gives me tons more information for better keeping track of what my body is doing. In case you are wondering what all of this stuff would like attached to my belly, here you go:

Congratulations! So, did you make up a basal rate, too? Very impressive explanation and visual effects. You make me so proud. :) Don't worry, I still plan to own you in the A1C battle. Happy pumping.
i am a proud wife... and for insurance purposes he checks closer to 8-10 times a day. dear, you must be careful what you disclose :) and for the record i did not take that picture.
My research doc recommended some pretty agressive basal rates (one during the day and a little lower at night). They were giving me lots of lows, so i have been gradually backing them down.
You better bring your 'A' game if you think you can take me in the A1C battle. Remember, i shot a 5.9 as a rookie before i had a pump, granted i still had a partial pancreas... anyhow, you don't have a chance.
I'm proud of both of my 'pumpers'!!! Glad you are 'officially' pumping insulin now....glad you and Annie can be 'backup and support' for each other!! This will be better than shots...until we get a cure....:)
love you!! Kinda interesting to have a pix that isn't of the girls...and not even a 'face' shot!
